Other Channels
The book carries four domains of the multiple integral: music, religion, power, ideology and culture, and money. The other channels are here.
The book carries four domains of the multiple integral: music, religion, power, ideology and culture, and money. They were chosen because no two readers stand in the same relation to all four, and because together they show the deposit being laid down, transmitted and contested at civilisational scale. The channels gathered here do the same work from other positions, and each can be read alone, in any order, as with the four in the book.
Language is the upgrade that made the deposit cumulative at all, and the medium in which most of it is now carried. It evolved once, and the single root has consequences.
Warfare and sport are the oldest selectors operating on groups of integrals, the one terminal and the other ritualised. Sport is what a civilisation builds when it needs the states warfare produced without the cost.
Education is the exception among the channels: the multiple integral applying formative management to itself, choosing what enters the next generation's parameter sets and when.
Law and justice is the outer frame made compulsory, and the channel that carries the oldest argument about where the individual ends and the collective begins.
Institutions are the middle scale, where a bounded set of integrals holds a founding pattern longer than any of its members. The question each one answers differently is how the pattern survives the people.
Media and transmission is the channel that carries the other channels. Every change in its bandwidth has outrun the institutions built for the old one, and the pattern has not yet finished running.
Science and technology is the only channel that made the update pathway its object of design. The account runs in two movements, from Thales to the steam engine and from the transistor to the installed integral in silicon, and ends with the question the frozen integral poses.
